Other Willis Groups of Dorchester and Caroline Counties auDNA, Top 50 matches

Ancestry user KGBC73 can trace her Willis lineage back to a Sarah Ann Willis married to Lewis Whittington. They are in the 1860 census records of Dorchester County,  Maryland.   Stepping back to the previous census,  Sarah is in the 1850 Census records, also of Dorchester County,  Maryland, in the household of a John Willis,  married to Sally LNU.  I searched KGCC73's  DNA match list on the surname Willis and glanced down the results list of the top 100 names.   I do not recognize any of the matches as being of my MARYLAND GROUP.   So,  it is possible that KGBC73's ancestor, Sarah, is of some other group of Willis living in Dorchester Co in the mid 1800s.   Therefore,  in examining her match list in detail,  we might get a good feel for many of the Willis ancestors who belong to this other Willis group.  Using this info,  we can separate out those Willis in census records who are of this other group vs. those of my MARYLAND GROUP.

Something's wrong.  Usually,  after outlining the top 50 matches on a surname,  then stepping back and looking at the list,  you'll see some kind of common pattern around a time and geographic area.   In this case,  it looked as if the Willis ancestor had ties back to late 1600s, early 1700 Mass.  However,  its also important that you see matching segments,  inter-relationships among the people with that common pattern.   I'm not seeing it here.   None of the people above,  who have the Willis from Mass,  have segments in common.  Once that became clear,  I proceeded down the entire list,  looking for segments in common anywhere among the list that might be coming from Willis.  There was nothing.   The only plausible conclusion here is a biological break somewhere down the branch where the Willis ancestor resides.   These matches are not going to be helpful in achieving what we had hoped.
